Great brief TED Talk about news distortion

Not a lot of surprises here, but some good solid facts and context about news distortion in a brief TED talk by Public Radio International head Alisa Miller. A great example of how what we say we want, what we actually want, and what we offer one another don't line up. This is shown in the context of media coverage, but exactly the same distortions apply to our own world views and our approach to dharma practice. Here's the link.

Habits and the Brain

A friend sent me a great link to a NYT article on habits and the brain — how the brain develops new synaptic connections when we do things differently. In other words, getting out of your rut makes your brain grow. Hooray! The article quotes a couple of experts who talk about "three zones of existence: comfort, stretch and stress. Comf… Continue

Thanks for this engaging site, not to mention my new Dharma name. I had always imagined something with "Das" at the end; however, "Burning Mellowness" does have a certain marshmallowy invocation to it, one that suggests fiery insight and smoky extinction simultaneously. Campfire Buddhism!
I'm always inspired by fellow silly Canadian meditating musicians.

Hi again. It would be convenient if I were more "Italian by inclination." Instead I've felt trapped in a strange and unfriendly world for most of the 7+ years I've lived here. The CREA conference looks interesting. Innovation? Problem-solving? Collaboration? Not typically Italian qualities at all, so it strikes me as funny that a North American comes to Italy for these things. Just goes to show that anything is possible and that we each have our own path which uncovers things invisible to another... Thanks for that. By the way, I'm enjoying reading your blog.

Hi Franca,
My husband is Italian, from Milan, so here I am... Are you Italian? What kind of conference do you come to annually?
