Yes it was inquiry. As to whether I have 'ever had a habit or some part of [my]self' that I have 'found impossible to change, so far'--as to habits, no. Difficult, you bet. Impossible, no. For me though the most difficult thing is identifying the...

I think that a new discussion on the 'Present Moment', is a good suggestion. I have a question on this topic. I find that I am constantly "trying to be in the present moment, letting all else drop away, including pre-existing judgements; the whole...

Tardy Eye, I'm a bit lost here as I can't figure out what item in the thread you referred to initially when you asked, "Who coined this notion of "the present moment"? I don't think it exsists." back on page 4. Can anyone patch this together for m...

About Me:
I've been studying with Ken since I discovered him in early 2006. I followed a link to UM from Pema Chodron's Website and listened to a podcast by Ken on reactive emotions. At last, a teacher I can understand with tools I can use! Before that I had many years of disorganized practice in the Zen tradition along with a strong interest in the culture and traditions of Tibet and the himalaya. These days I sit every day, read and listen to podcasts, study Qi Gong where I can, and remember to live awake every now and then.
For work, I design books. For joy, time with nature and with those I love, for "oblivion" movies, food, the usual. I oscillate back and forth between my home in the small community of Port Townsend, WA, and Santa Barbara, CA where my mother and sweetheart live. Stay tuned.

A great dharma talk by Yvonne Rand

I don't know what this "My Blog" feature does, so I thought I try it. Earlier I re-listened to a talk by Yvonne Rand in the Dharma Seed Tape Library. Since I've been coming at practice and study with the zeal of the converted (even though I've been in and out of practice for years) I found her talk helped bring me (closer) to the ground and had some practical advice:

Curiosity has been tickled. What is this button? Does it say something or have a picture on it?

Valerie, I am interested in helping with the Taxonomy group of the transcription project. Perhaps this should be obvious to me, but I don't see your e-mail address. Please be in touch and let me know how to participate in Friday's meeting.

Valerie, I would also like to volunteer for the transcription project. Tell me what to do and I will do it. I recently transcribed a teaching of the Dalai Lama's of the Six Paramitas (DVD on Netflix) just so I would have access to the teachings. I wrote out the translation (subtitles) in long hand and then followed up by typing it into a Word Document. It was a great practice. So, I think ths project would be a great way to keep my focus on the Dharma and would benefit others (win, win!). Let me know what i can do to contribute.

Hi Valerie
At this point, if I tried to help with "podcasting" I would probably crash the whole system. My computer skills are just one step above marginal. I will be listening however. All the best Sharon

Hi Valerie, After hearing Ken talk about learning from Yvonne in one of his podcasts, I looked her up, found her website (called something like Goat in the Road) and found her talks on Dharma Seed. I also found the talk on expectations to be wonderful -- and it brought me closer to the ground too. Even though a long time has passed since I listened, I remember it well. "Expectations" provoked me to look for more audiofiles of her teachings, but I haven't been able to find any apart from the couple on Dharma Seed. Have you? Hope you're having a good holiday. warm regards...A

The Samye photo is from 2004. I went there with 20 others on a trip led by a young lama from the Dzachuka valley of Kham. Was involved in helping to restore the monastery, among other things (check out www.amnyitrulchung.org)

Were you able to visit the Chimpu caves above Samye? That was very special. Before visiting Lhasa and Samye we were in Kham and had the chance to visit Yachen Gar, one of the huge encampments where monks, nuns and lay people congregate to study these days. There we had an audience with Rinpoche's teacher Lama Achuk . Another very wonderful part of the trip was Mani Dungkar -- a beautiful mani wall started by Patrul Rinpoche -- will find some pics of that and put them up.
