Thank you for including me in this group. I can see that, in addition to practice, it will be helpful for me to read some on these sites every day. I feel as if I have just stepped up to an incredibly rich banquet table and am going to try to resi...

Thank you for creating this group. Funny I used to hate my computer & a lot of the time I am still all thumbs with it. However, now I am so grateful for all of the wonderful things I am able to connect with on line.

About Me:
I actually have been studying/teaching Yoga for 9+ years.
This is, however, my first foray into Buddhist teachings. Well that's not entirely true - I did spend 5 1/2 year in Asia. I am also a watercolor Artist and the author of WATERCOLOR BASICS: PAINTING FLOWERS published by NorthLight books.

Books I am reading

I am reading The Black Swan by Nassim Nicholas Taleb. Not exactly about Buddhism, but he sure has a lot to say about "the impact of the highy improbable"

Also, rereading Karma & Reincarnation by Dr. Hiroshi Motoyama, the Head Priest of the Tamamitsu Shrine in Tokyo as well as the founder of a school here in Encinitas California.

Wow what a deep poem; I'll need to re reread it several time. Odd that in such a serious poem there were pop out advertisements for various products & services.
Sorry, I generally use the Firefox browser on Ubuntu Linux, so I just don't register many of the ruder parts of the internet. That was the first google link for "five bells slessor."
I chose the name years ago, when I first got a Live Journal account. It's not my favorite poem, anymore. (That would be The Four Quartets. Maybe as I age, the number in my favorite poem will keep going down, until it's named something like "The Zero Something-or-others.")

What is the significance of five bells?
It's the name of a poem.

The "illusion of choice" idea probably comes from Trungpa. It's probably in his book The Myth of Freedom and the Way of Meditation. (But that specific text isn't in there.)

Hi Sharon... yes the beauty of that "emotion and reason" information is that I've been watching myself fool myself with supposed "rational" decisions ever since!

Hi Sharon: Well, not exactly. If you want to get involved with a group that is doing other projects around podcasts, like working on a book from the Then and Now series, making transcripts of podcasts, creating an audio clip database, or developing an index for the podcasts based on transcripts, or some other project you have in mind . . . then I can connect you with the networking site for that group.

If you want to listen to podcasts, most are available through the Unfetteredmind.org site or you can have them come to your computer regularly via iTunes.
