What's so special about Tibetan Buddhism for you ?

For, me, I like the fact that the Tibetan schools include all of the Buddhist practices common to other traditions from the four noble truths to highest yoga tantra. Within this multitude of paths ...

Is this about Giving and Receiving?

This reminds me of something Ken said about holding both ends of a continuum. It points to the paradox of human life that we may die the next minute, or live until old age. We need to be alive to ...

Patrick, replacing emptiness with 'changing' would seem to suggest that emptiness is synonymous with impermanence when, to my understanding, it is more than this. I see emptiness (sunyata) as more equal to dependently-arising which might be a usef...

About Me:
Been meditating for 12 years but only seriously studying the dharma in the last five. Currently receiving teachings from Jamyang Buddhist Centre in London from the Gelug School but find that Ken's approach to the Tibetan tradition suits me well.
I have a chronic illness which is both a hindrance and good ground for practice depending on how I am feeling.

Taoist Story

I recently came across this story in the notes of a copy of the Tao Te Ching. I was struck by the similarlity to the four yogas of Mahamudra so thought i would post here.

A monk asked Ma-tzu, "Why do you teach, 'Mind is Buddha'?"

Ma-tzu said, "To stop a baby from crying."

The monk said, "When the baby has stopped crying, what then?"

Ma-tzu said, "Then I teach 'Not mind, not Buddha.'"

Hi Andy -- It seems the sharing of poetry has has already begun -- Art Gardner posted one of his poems in the Forum today and I took courage and shared one of mine. I've noticed that some people share poetry through their personal pages and occasionally in the context of a forum conversation about something else.

Maybe the photo/video coordinator role could be broadened to something like "creative coordinator" and that person could help to foster the broader sharing of creative expression via UM Ning. Great idea -- will certainly pass it on!

Hi Andy, Some yrs back I was studying/practicing with sangha at Chandrakirti, an FPMT centre in New Zealand and through those connections came into contact with Jamyang Centre. It was early days with being able to access buddhist audio on the net and someone called Gordon very wonderfully posted some audiofiles to me here. If you know who I'm talking about and see him please say hello.
