PROBING PRESENCE
~ a set of methods to discuss practice questions in a peer group, and to be awake and present in the interaction ~
The foundation of Buddhist practice – meditation – is a solitary activity but as the capacity for attention develops and permeates our life, questions arise. So there is the wisdom that tells us to find guidance from a teacher. Sometimes a teacher isn’t available, but we do have each other.
Probing Presence is a group practice that enables peer groups to recreate some of the special conditions that take place in a one-on-one practice interaction between a teacher and a student.
This is a Question & Answer session in which group members help each other find solutions to questions that arise in practice and in the interaction between practice & life. However, this isn't a conventional discussion. It’s a group practice, held in presence and attention, with a set of guidelines developed by Ken McLeod. The methods & techniques help us to hold a field of attention, to embody awake qualities, to reduce the amount of storytelling, and to point the inquirers to their own knowing and experience.
These methods & techniques are relevant to other types of groups (study, work) and to one’s own, individual experiences with others.
